Moving my outdoor art studio into my home

My new in-home art studio
Hi Everyone

Recently I found myself moving my painting studio from the outdoors to a room in my home. The weather here in San Diego has been unseasonably HOT... and I found that it was difficult to stay focused on my painting when I was uncomfortable. So I decided to convert an empty bedroom in my home into my new art studio space. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I found myself moving furniture around gathering my paintings from all over my home, collecting all of my art supplies and setting up my work table. At least I didn’t have to move a bed out of the room…whew…
Did I have everything I needed? Good question... all I can say is that right now my new indoor studio is a work in progress.
This room looks like it’s half bedroom and half art studio right now…
Here is a list of BASIC supplies and other items that I needed for my new home art studio. I was fortunate to have most of these items already
- Easel
- Table and chair
- Paper towels and rags
- Container (s) for cleaning your brushes (most bedrooms do not come with a sink) Mine did not…
- Plenty of blank canvasses, panels or papers
- Sketch pads, pencils, paints
- Paint brushes (all sorts of styles and sizes) and other painting utensils
- container for cleaning brushes
- shelves or a bookshelf to hold my growing collection of art books
- A small desk or side table to use for making notes, handling business
- A printer
- Good lighting ...lots of natural light if possible... (I found that I am going to have to invest in a spot light or lamp that emulates natural light)
- clock (optional)
- Music (optional)... I enjoy listening to music when I paint... do you prefer music, conversation or quiet in your studio space?
- A space to stash candles, photographs, inspirational journals, etc.
- electrical outlets and extension cord
- A sign for my door that identifies this old bedroom as a new art studio. Good idea to post your studio hours too!!
Pretty basic... I would say...but it's a start
